"I come from a long line of family who have been involved in serving our country and others. I want to work for you. We need to create more opportunities for our children and families, veterans, and businesses. We need to improve our schools so they are safe for the communities children. Public safety needs to be a top priority as our city grows. With over two decades of government, business, and personal experience, I know what it takes to find innovative solutions, and get things done."
LIST OF ISSUES
TRANSPORTATION
Many residents have voiced concern over the current road and traffic conditions in our growing city. Some of the improvements needed involve nothing more than timing of lights, while others are more extensive. As a council member I would work to improve current roadways by working with local, county, and state officials, would refine parks and roadways so pedestrians and families can safely walk, run, and bike, and work with authorities and the private sector to bring light rail to Manor.
COMMUNICATION
Communication between residents and City Hall is essential, as the power lies with each and every citizen to have a say in the direction their community is heading. Many people feel their elected officials are hard to reach once elected. The needs of the residents will be my primary focus. To maintain channels of communication remain available and open to the community, if elected, I will be available through a variety of media types (ie. email, phone, social media), and working towards setting up a comment and suggestion service on the City of Manor website and improving the dissemination of information about what new developments are occurring within the City of Manor. I would also like to send out very short surveys to gather information on residents needs and feedback on the Manor City Council's job performance periodically.
TAXES
If elected to the Manor City Council, Jacob will fight to keep business and residents taxes to the lowest possible level, so that government can properly function, while not taking more money than necessary out of hard-working Americans pockets. Jacob feels you know how to spend your hard-earned money better than the government and you should be able to keep the fruits of your labors.
DIVERSITY
As a city and nation, we are a diverse group of people. The US Declaration of Independence declared that all men are created equal. With these words our nation was defined as being blind to race, religion, sex, gender, or creed. Jacob believes in equal rights for all citizens, to live in any manner they choose, as long as they do not infringe upon the rights of others.
BUSINESS
Jacob wants to work with local business leaders and business owners to help grow the local economy. With a strong business community and economy, more job opportunities will be available for families and young workers entering the workforce. Working with business leaders and officials, Jacob has a goal to provide those who fought and served this great country, with opportunities to start their own business or grow an existing business.
HOUSING
The growth in Manor is inescapable. Most visitors and residents have noticed that on almost every corner there is a new housing development sprouting up around the city. As a Planning and Zoning Commissioner for the City of Manor, Jacob listened to the thoughts and concerns from the residents of Manor and businesses to approve or disapprove development plans for the area. We need to go full steam ahead with the current and future plans while ensuring that traffic congestion is improved, property taxes remain low, housing remains within reach of potential buyers, and builders continue to see promise in what our great city has to offer for developmental purposes.
PUBLIC SAFETY
As a volunteer in the first Manor Citizen's Police Academy, Jacob was able to learn more about the excellent work our cities law enforcement performs in order to keep the residents of Manor safe. Chief Ryan Phipps has led the effort with his officers to be a community focused law enforcement agency. The friendly and brave work the fine officers of the Manor PD perform on a daily basis, is one more reason that our city is a great place to live.
